Virginia's Blue Ridge GO Cross: Canadian Maghalie Rochette and US national champion Andrew Strohmeyer win elite C1 races to begin US Cyclocross Series
Mia Aseltine, Manon Bakker on podium for elite women while Eric Brunner, Tyler Clark go second, third for elite men at USCX opener in Roanoke
Canadian Maghalie Rochette and US cyclocross champion Andrew Strohmeyer won the C1 races on the first day of GO Cross CX in Roanoke, Virginia, which launched the start of the 2025 US Cyclocross Series (USCX).
The six-lap, 3km race course held in Fallon Park is known as one of the more technical and challenging courses in the series.
Rochette, who swept all eight races and won the overall USCX in 2023, took the lead in the elite women's contest in the middle of the race. Mia Aseltine would chase in second, finishing 33 seconds back.
Manon Bakker and Sidney McGill, who finished second and third, respectively in the USCX standings last year, battled behind with Bakker taking the final podium spot, 1:55 back.
In the men's event, Strohmeyer replicated his win from a year ago to begin the USCX season, which he won. This time at GO Cross he won solo again, this time 23 seconds ahead of Eric Brunner and another 24 seconds to Canadian Tyler Clark.
